A Genuine Cultural Wedding Experience – or- My Mercifully Short Career as a Bollywood Dancer

Featured

Hello dear readers. This free blog is running out of photo space, so while I have started the post here, you will find the rest at the link below. My new blog site will be in use on a regular basis in just over a month. Please click FOLLOW if you wish and LIKE if you like. Enjoy and thanks for reading. Allan

What was happening????I was enveloped by pulsing music……….my arms were moving, my body was swaying……apparently neither one of them in time with the music. I looked down….what were my feet doing? I looked back up. I was surrounded by 30 beautiful women in 30 beautiful sarees. They were all smiling………….at me…………..Their arms and legs flashed out in time to the music, unlike mine. Was I in the middle of some Bollywood dream? How had this all happened?

But, I am getting ahead of myself. Here is how it all began, so innocently……………

Warm Wishes for a Happy New Year

Warm Wishes

To all my Dear Readers from places both near and far

and to all my followers, you know who you are.

To those whose Views, Likes and Comments keep me going

and to those who stop by leaving no Likes showing.

To all those of you who read every last post

and those who may read one line at the very most.

I hope my posts are informative or funny,

as I post for fun, not to try to make money.

To bloggers I follow who keep me entertained

with tales of travel, hope, courage, fear and deep pain.

And those whose humour has me rolling on the floor,

I wish you a Happy New Year and many more.

Happy New Year Everyone and All the Best in 2019. Thanks for Reading.

Allan

Blogger Recognition Award

Good morning everyone. My post today is a little different than usual. I am writing to give thanks to https://cocinaitaly.wordpress.com/   for nominating me for the Blogger Recognition Award,  I really appreciate this nomination, giving recognition for my work in blogging for the past 3 1/2 years.

Having said that, the  Blogger Recognition Award  is a prize given to recognize the work of the blogs of which we are followers, which has the following  rules of nomination:

  1. Write a post to publicize the nomination.
  2. Express our gratitude to the blog that nominates us and link our post to your website.
  3. Write about how our blog started.
  4. Give advice to new bloggers.
  5. Nominate 15 blogs of which we are followers and to which we want to grant this recognition. We can not include the blog that nominated us.
  6. Comment on each nominated blog that you have named and provide the link to the post you have created.

My original blog retiredandownunda was started as a way to tell my friends back home of our travel exploits through New Zealand and Australia in late 2014/early 2015. My wife suggested I should do this and supplement it with my photos along the way. I wrote it as a private blog with no tags or categories and it accordingly met with limited success. Being thrifty due to my recent retirement, I used the free option from WordPress and in no time, my first blog spot was full with too many large format photos and only a few followers. Since then I have filled 3 other blogs and am now on my 5th one. I now dabble in poetry and am by no means a “good” poet. The constant theme throughout is my photos. The photos I take tell me what I need to say, either poetry or prose. I have reduced the size of my photos to make the free sites last longer.

I have become much wiser throughout the process and would give the following advice to new bloggers.

  1. Talk about something you know. Believe in your story. Use your own words.
  2. Make your blog searchable by including categories and tags. “Uncategorized” will  not lead many to your blog. It took me 3 years to learn this.
  3. Do not make your posts too long or too wordy. Break long posts down into bite sized pieces, if you can. Mix poetry and prose posts. Use humour when you can and seriousness when warranted.
  4. A good photo/good photos go a long way in attracting interest. Sometimes, people only have enough time to look at the pictures.
  5. Post on a regular schedule, whether that be daily, weekly, monthly or whatever.
  6. Engage your readers/followers. Ask them for their advice and comments. It took me a long time to learn this.
  7. Always respond to comments and visit the sites of bloggers who visit yours.
  8. Have fun. If you make blogging a chore, you may not be as successful.

I also follow many bloggers who likely deserve this award much  more than I. Unfortunately, I can only nominate 15 bloggers and here are my nominations in no particular order.

  1. https://carpediemeire.com/
  2. https://nationalparkswitht.com/
  3. https://vrsskimo.wordpress.com/
  4. https://littlefears.co.uk/
  5. https://lovetravellingblog.com/
  6. https://www.kelseyschmitt.com/
  7. https://joshidaniel.com/
  8. https://angelartstar.wordpress.com/
  9. https://peterteremi.com/
  10. https://lynettedartycross.com/
  11. https://rderealphotos.com/
  12. https://images-fixes.photo/
  13. https://vanillapapersblog.wordpress.com/
  14. https://thedihedral.com/
  15. https://hikeminded.blog/

Thank you all for your support, encouragement and readership. I could not have come this far without you.

Deepest regards.
