Empty Nesters

This Task is for the Birds

You’ve done your job and the kids are all gone,

no more playful squeals out on the back lawn.

You recall so well the day they arrived,

the nest was full of joy and felt alive.

Feeding and nurturing were full time chores,

Your love gave them wings and helped them to soar.

They fluttered away, stayed nearby at first,

their tentative flaps made your heart near burst.

Then one sunny day, away they all flew,

you only hope that they remember you.
